Port Wallis Church Secret Friends Information For Adult Participants

Winter 2012

Thank you for taking part in Port Wallis United Church’s Secret Friends group, an opportunity for the adults in our congregation to become a secret friend to the children in our church.  We are hoping that this activity will create a greater sense of community and caring for the children in our church, and also the adults!

You have been given a form filled out by your new secret friend to give you the chance to see where their interests lie, how old they are, and other possibly relevant information.  We are asking that the adult secret friend take on the challenge by meeting the following expectations:

  • Recognize any holidays, special events, or birthdays in your child’s life with a note, card, or letter (this could start as soon as next week with Valentines)

  • Respond to any correspondence your child leaves for you.

  •  Leave regular letters, notes, or cards could include a newspaper article, bible verse, comic strip, or magazine picture that you feel would interest your child

  • Pray for your child

  •  Connect with your child without revealing you are their secret friend

  • Correspondence should be left for your child at least once a month

  •  Participate in the secret friend party later in the year so that you may let your child know that they were the special child that you had been thinking of over the last few months.

There will be a mailbox in the church foyer allowing for correspondence to be dropped off anonymously… your Secret Friend will be putting notes to you in the box with the letter that corresponds to their first name  (they will be addressed “to my Secret Friend from _____)

Please have fun with this, you are making a difference in a child’s life and creating wonderful memories of their church experience growing up as a member of Port Wallis United Church!
